Water Damage Can Lead to Mold Growth

When dealing with any type of water damage, from a burst pipe to a leaking roof to a foundation leak, the biggest concern is the potential for mold growth — and this can happen fast! If areas are not dried completely, mold can begin to grow and spread. Because mold can impact people’s health, it’s important to take action to resolve water damage immediately so that mold doesn’t have a chance to develop.

This is why restoring a water-damaged home usually involves the use of air dryers and dehumidifiers to remove excess moisture. When proper equipment is used, it generally takes about three to four days to dry out a property.

Can Smoke Damage Be Removed?

Although many people assume that smoke damage is permanent, the truth is that it can be removed when proper tools and techniques are used. The restoration process depends on the extent of soot damage and whether the surfaces are nonporous or porous. Professionals usually begin by vacuuming any loose soot and smoke particles that are around the affected area. Next, they apply a cleaning solution to remove the smoke residue. If blisters have resulted from the fire, those will need to be scraped away, and the surface will need to be sanded.

Once all the visible damage has been removed, lingering smoke odors may still be present. Enhancing ventilation by opening windows and using fans is one way to decrease these odors. In some cases, carpets, furnishings, and other textile finishes will need to be removed to get rid of the smoke smells. To eliminate the odors completely, it may be necessary to use an ozone generator.

With First Restoration America on the job, everything in the damage restoration process will be managed efficiently and effectively. We even work with insurance companies so our customers can be assured they’re getting the most out of their policies.
